Care
Shoeing, the horse's feet should be checked at least every six
weeks, and preferably all four. The horn of a horse's hoof is continually growing grom the
top of the hoof. A horse out at grass may be able to manage without shoes as the horn is
worn at the same rate as it grows, but any horse worked on hard surfaces will be worn
away, leading to lameness. Whether a horse is shod or not, the hooves will need to be
trimmed regularly to prevent the hoof wall caraking needs to be corrected otherwise
the confirmation problems become worse and palce undue strain on the tendons. Although the
toe horn grows faster than the heal, a horse at grass is likely to wear down the toes more
quickly and the heal will be needed to be trimmed.
